Skeletal Clerics keep the group alive, which is easy to undervalue until a rough rare pack tries to wipe everything. Storm Mages help apply shock, Brutes add pressure through intimidation, and Frost Mages bring a bit of safety by reducing incoming damage. It doesn't feel like a random crowd of summons. It feels like a small machine, and when the parts are working, enemies melt fast.

Defense Comes From More Than Minions

You can't just trust your army to take every hit. Good players will notice that the build feels much better once Energy Shield, block, and recovery start coming together. Those layers give you time to reposition when a boss jumps, or when a map mod makes packs hit harder than expected. The passive tree should start with basic attribute needs, then move into minion power through nodes like Growing Swarm and Restless Dead. Later, Energy Shield clusters, recovery, minion speed, and aura effect become more important. Ascendancy choices such as Soul's Form, Necromantic Conduit, Eternal Life, and Crystalline Phylactery fit the same idea: damage is great, but staying alive keeps the run profitable.

Playing It Well Is About Rhythm

In maps, don't stand still and admire the summons. Keep moving, curse ahead, drop exposure, and let the army crash into packs before they surround you. On bosses, the rhythm is a bit tighter: apply curses, refresh buffs or offerings, trigger burst tools, then move before the next big hit lands. Gear follows a similar common-sense path. First cap resistances and fix attributes. Then chase minion skill levels and extra spirit. Later, stack Energy Shield, block, and useful minion modifiers.
